Woman bitten by COBRA during selfie left in coma as man who ‘set up snake pic’ arrested

A man has been arrested amid claims he was offering tourists in Russia – including the stricken woman – the chance to have their photo taken with the deadly snake

According to officers, Oliver Matveyev, 34, had been offering to take pictures of people with the snake in Russia for years.
However, they said he had only recently started offering the selfie service in line with the popular trend.
He was arrested after reports that the snake had bitten a young woman, resulting in her being taken to hospital.

When questioned, Matveyev is said to have told officers he had been offering the selfies with a difference to people sunbathing on the banks of the Kuban River near the southern Russian village of Dermontovo.
He’s reported to have told them: “I don’t understand it, the snake had never bitten anyone before.”
Reports suggest he had not been carrying any antidote for the cobra’s bite and he had failed to have the snake made safe by removing its venom.
He was arrested after police discovered he did not have a licence for the animal.


Police said they were awaiting a condition check on the young woman.
If the young woman dies, Matveyev has been told he could face manslaughter or even murder charges.
